Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare features a character system, determining your character's natural abilities in the field.

Characters have an attributes system, featuring 5 main categories that determine his or her various capabilities during and outside combat, these are called attributes. Attributes affect the core of your player and allow you to choose which skills you would like to specialize in. All attributes have a maximum level of 15.There are 11 subcategories called skills which affect gameplay as well. These skills increase the capacity of certain things such as the amount of prisoners you have, and even are capable of increasing the pace the player moves at on the world map. All skills have a maximum level of 5. After skills, there are weapon points which function like proficiency with items. The higher the amount of points in a weapon or armor type the better the armor you can equip or the more damage and accurate the weapon will be. All weapon points have a maximum level of 100.
